Shelby Right Marches On

While I was with Fawnia Mondey helping her compete in the 2005 NPC Pittsburgh Classic that was held May fifth & sixth,  I noticed another lovely blonde on stage with her named Shelby Kadyk-Right.  When Shelby was on stage I couldn’t help but notice her because of her stage presence and gorgeous smile.  During a break in the competition I approached Shelby telling her who I am, gave her my business card and that I would like her to check out my website and get in touch with me if she would like to be part of the Make ‘Em Sweat family.  A few weeks later I got a call from Shelby and we discussed what we would do together to help her reach her goal of earning an IFBB Pro Figure card.  We than talked a little more about ourselves getting to know each other.  The first thing was to get some photo shoots with top notch photographers.  Shelby lives in Pittsburgh so an obvious first choice for our first photo shoot together was with my good friend J.M. Manion.  I called him and set up a shoot for August fifteenth.  Between setting the shoot up and doing it Shelby competed in NYC on August fifth & sixth in the 2005 NPC MET-Rx NATIONAL FIGURE CHAMPIONSHIPS  and placed a very competitive fifth place out of twenty-eight competitors.  Although she was disappointed at first in not gaining her pro card, she later realized just how close she is (with a little encouragement from me) to her goal.
Next I met Shelby at her house in Pittsburgh to help her prepare for her shoot with J.M. and to ride to his studio together.  When she came to the door to great me a big smile came to my face, she was more gorgeous than I remembered and still had the big, beautiful smile.  Everything about that day was almost perfect, from arriving at her house doing the shoot with JM, but I think the best part - especially for Shelby - was the pizza we had afterward.  The only part that made it not perfect was a phone call from her husband Army 2nd Lieutenant Jacob Right who is in Iraq until next summer.  The news he gave her was intense, in her words this is what Jacob told his wife Shelby as we were walking into J.M.’s studio to do the photo shoot;  “Jacob said they went out on a mission and all of a sudden they were under small arms fire. His RTO was shot in the bicep, and Jacob had to take over the 50 Caliper gun from the humvee and return fire. He and others completely destroyed a building, and when trying to exit the area, they had to shoot at cars to get them to move out of their way. This was the first major encounter he had faced personally since arriving, and therefore the first time I realized how real our whole situation was. Insurgents were shooting at my husband! It was very scary, but more difficult to not be able to show my emotion because everyone was waiting for me inside the studio. I had to stop our conversation short and go in and nail the shoot for my husband. Knowing that he was unharmed allowed me to focus and perform my best shoot yet!”
I watched her walk into the studio after the call a little distracted and even more beautiful than when we arrived, maybe because they both stole a little of my heart that morning.  Sweet little Shelby than gathered her composure and nailed the photo shoot.  I was so proud of her for what she was able to do, I promised myself I would work extra hard to make their being apart as bearable as I can by writing updates to him about what we are doing and how things are going from my perspective.  Shelby is a fighter – she proved that at the photo shoot - and is not looking for sympathy.  She keeps going day by day and we are now looking into future photo shoots, getting her story into magazines and of course looking for sponsorship for her.  I joke with her about being the best kept secret in NPC National Figure.  One things for sure, if she keeps doing shoots like we just did that will change very soon.  Shelby is an amazing person with great potential in every aspect; looks, career and life.  We will make the name of Shelby Kadyk-Right known and have a great time making it happen.
